Cannon Village is host to many events in Kannapolis, including the Cool Car Cruise and Show in April, the Mill Village Tour of Homes each October, an annual Christmas celebration at the holidays and the Cottonstock Festival which features local arts and crafts along with food and entertainment.

Kannapolis is minutes away from Lowe’s Motor Speedway, home of NASCAR’s Coca Cola 600 and the Nextel All Star Race. Shoppers will find everything they need and more at nearby Concord Mills Mall and Carolina Mall. The Eastern Cabarrus Historic Museum features exhibits on the history and development of the county and the impact of car racing. Other area museums include Backing Up Classics Race Museum, the North Carolina Transportation Museum and the Rowan Museum.

Home to racing legend Dale Earnhardt, the City of Kannapolis has honored this racing great with a nine foot tall bronze statue surrounded by gardens and walkways in the one-acre Dale Earnhardt Plaza. Nearby, the Cannon Village Visitor Center features the Dale Earnhardt Tribute Center by Sam Bass, chronicling Earnhardt’s career. The Cannon Village Visitor Center is also home to the Fieldcrest Cannon Textile Museum and Exhibition, where visitors can see one of the world’s largest towels, an antique handloom and textiles that are over 1,200 years old. Cannon Village Home Furnishing Marketplace is housed in a group of Colonial-style buildings where furniture, home decorating items, clothing and gifts are for sale. The GI House is the only remaining prefabricated home built by Cannon Mills for returning WW II veterans. Artifacts and heirlooms dating from 1945 to 1950 are also on display.

Two hours to the west of Kannapolis are the Blue Ridge Mountains and three-and-a-half hours to the east lies the Atlantic Ocean with its stunning beaches. In nearby Charlotte there are a number of museums including the Levine Museum of the South, the Mint Museum of Art, the Charlotte Nature Museum, the Charlotte Museum of History, the Hezekiah Alexander Homesite, and the Mint Museum of Craft and Design. Paramount’s Carowinds Theme Park has 11 roller coasters, water rides, a motion simulation theatre and a stern-wheeler boat. Those who enjoy live theatre and music can catch performances at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center, the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, and the Philharmonic Orchestra.

The new Charlotte Arena is home to the Bobcats, representing the National Basketball Association. The Carolina Panthers hike the ball at Bank of America Stadium in Uptown. The Charlotte Checkers, an International Hockey League team, face off at Cricket Arena.

There are public and private golf courses located throughout Charlotte and its suburbs. The Wachovia Championship, a PGA event, is held annually at Quail Hollow Club. Swimming, boating, fishing, windsurfing, water skiing and sailing are popular activities at Lake Norman, and Badin Lake, also Jetton Park and Lake Norman State Park, offer hiking and bicycling trails.
